Sun hats, golf visors, legionnaires. A product can solve the problem and still be left at home.
SOUL-A founder Dr. Angelo Landriscina is a board-certified dermatologist with a sharp fashion point of view. He wanted an alternative to traditional sun protection—something that delivered extended facial coverage without asking people to sacrifice their personal style.
Leadoff worked with SOUL-A to design Visor Type-E: a customizable sun-protection visor that makes serious facial coverage feel as easy to put on as sunglasses—and as intentional as the rest of your look.
Ergonomic visor design
A visor can look incredible and still fail if it does not feel right on the face. We designed Visor Type-E around comfort, adaptability, and everyday ease.
The key components we focused on:
Three configurations for different levels of coverage.
Adjustable arms for a more personalized fit.
Interchangeable nosepieces for greater comfort.
A lightweight lens profile that stays close to the face.
An intuitive experience that feels familiar from the first wear.
Through sketches, CAD development, renderings, fit refinement, and physical prototypes, we shaped a new protective form around the way people actually move through their day.
Optimizing facial coverage
Standard cylindrical and spherical optical molds could not provide the combination of coverage, comfort, and character the idea required.
Instead, we developed a custom-molded lens specifically for Visor Type-E. The lens curves inward at the top to help block sunlight that might otherwise enter from above. Its edges follow the complex curvature of the human face more closely than a stock optical form, creating extensive coverage while keeping the lens as compact and comfortable as possible.
The result is protection considered from every angle—not simply a larger shield placed in front of the face.
Making sun protection desireable
The deeper challenge was not convincing people that sun protection matters. It was creating something they would actually want to wear.
Visor Type-E transforms protective coverage into a form of self-expression. Its three configurations allow wearers to adapt the visor to different moments and activities, while its metallic, 2000s-futuristic design turns a traditionally clinical category into something confident, expressive, and unmistakably part of the look.
It brings Dr. Landriscina’s dermatological expertise and SOUL-A’s fashion perspective into the same product—using desire to support a healthier daily habit.
From custom mold to brand signature
Creating a custom lens mold required more time and a greater upfront investment than adapting an existing optical form. But a stock mold would have limited both the visor’s performance and its potential.
The custom mold gave SOUL-A an ownable production asset that can support future orders. More importantly, it created the distinctive upper-lens silhouette that makes Visor Type-E instantly recognizable.
What began as a decision about curvature became the product’s signature: a form shaped for stronger coverage, scalable production, and a visual identity that belongs entirely to SOUL-A.
Visor Type-E does not ask people to choose between caring for their skin and expressing themselves. It makes the better choice personal, desirable, and entirely their own.
